HP Touch Screen Laptops

HP’s current touch screen laptop, the TouchSmart Tx2 Notebook PC, takes advantage of recently released Windows 7 support for touch-sensitive screens. Pick, flick, scroll, drag, and rotate with your fingers or use a stylus on the touch screen. Handwriting recognition turns your stylus-written notes into text. The HP MediaSmart software for entertainment takes just two fingers to view photos and movies or listen to music. Starting at a base price of $799.99 from HP, this Tx2 Notebook has a 12.1” diagonal WXGA twist screen that can rotate 180 degrees or lie flat. Weight for the TouchSmart varies by configuration, but starts at about 4.7 lbs, tending toward the heavier end for this laptop size. You can replace the DVD drive with an included space holder and choose the 6 cell battery to lighten up. HP uses VISION Technology from AMD with the AMD Turion™ X2 Dual-Core Processor and an ATI Radeon HD graphics processor. You also get an integrated VGA webcam and microphone for videoconferencing and VOIP. On the negative side, the TouchSmart lacks ports for firewire, eSATA, and HDMI. Battery life tends to be short. It doesn’t have all the same applications as HP’s TouchSmart all-in-one desktop. But despite some drawbacks, this notebook won the Hardware Geeks Editor’s Choice Award for solid performance at an affordable price.
